2017 Ford F-150 EcoBoost Engines Come Equipped with Stop-Start Technology

It’s official—Ford announced that every 2017 Ford F-150 with an EcoBoost engine will have the stop-start technology coming standard. The stop-start system works by limiting idle time and cutting power to the engine when you’re not engaging the clutch. Ford estimated that this technology could have the potential to increase fuel economy by 10 percent. Are we convinced?

Auto Start-Stop technology will be standard across 100 percent of the EcoBoost®-equipped 2017 Ford F-150 lineup, potentially representing more than 60 percent of F-150 sales.

What Changed for Ford?

The stop-start feature is currently available on any 2016 F-150 that has the 2.7L V6 EcoBoost underneath the hood. This will change in 2017, when any F-150 with an EcoBoost regardless of the engine’s size will have the stop-start tech incorporated into it. This features may help your fuel economy, even up to a speculated two miles-per-gallon, but perhaps the biggest impact that Ford is aiming for is that it will reduce carbon dioxide emissions from its trucks.

This is especially true for the Raptor, which will have a 10-speed transmission along with its 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine. In addition, the body of the 2017 Ford Raptor will be all aluminum, therefore increasing its ability to tow and haul impressive numbers. The EcoBoost engine is designed to be high output and have an remarkable amount of horsepower and torque.

More Drivetrain Technology from Ford.

Ford was keen on showing off the stop-start technology feature at the North American Auto Show, where they debuted the 2017 Raptor. It competes with the Ram 1500 on account of the fact that the Ram only offers 8-speed transmission. Ford has not only taken their drivetrain to the next level with 10-speed, but has also included paddle shifters, which let you know when the gear is about to shift and allows you to engage the clutch.

Although we’re not certain, it’s likely that Ford will still offer this new transmission with different modes, such as the tow/haul mode. The stop-start system won’t be activated when the F-150 is towing or when the truck takes on 4-wheel drive.

The following Ford vehicles are available with Auto Start-Stop:

The 2017 Ford Raptor w/Stop-Start Technology

The 2017 Raptor has a specially designed chassis and powertrain along with two difference frames to accommodate your cab choice. Nearly 500 pounds has been cut thanks to the use of aluminum in these trucks—and the 3.5L V6 twin turbo EcoBoost engine with direct fuel injection is made to be an impressive high power machine, but also one that takes advantage of the stop-start technology.

Although the new engine will undoubtedly be quieter, Ford has hinted at more horsepower and toque from these beautiful machines. And we think that might just be worth the noise cancellation.

The 2017 Raptors will be available later this year with us at Route 23 Ford in Butler, New Jersey. Stop in and see us when you’re thinking of getting one and take advantage of stop-start tech from Ford!
